Has your electricity bill refund arrived?
On August 16, 2022, President Joseph Biden signed the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, which provides nearly $400 billion to support clean energy and combat climate change, including $8.8 billion for home energy rebates. These rebates, including the Home Energy Efficiency Rebate and the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate, will put money directly back into the hands of American families. These rebates can help you save money on some home improvement projects, thereby lowering your energy bills. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that these rebates will save American families up to $1 billion in energy bills each year and support more than 50,000 American jobs.
What are Home Energy Rebates
Home Energy Rebates will provide Americans with deep discounts on home upgrades, thereby lowering their monthly utility bills. Depending on where you live, you can use your rebates to get discounts on ENERGY STAR appliances, insulation, and more.
What rebates can I get? How much can I get?
Depending on where you live, you may be able to get rebates for projects such as the following through two home energy rebate programs:
Home Efficiency Rebate:
This is recommended when you take a combination of steps to reduce your energy use.
All households may qualify, with lower-income households receiving the largest rebates.
Depending on your household income and the energy savings of your project, you could save up to $8,000.
Your project needs to reduce your home's energy consumption by at least 20%.
Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates:
Recommended for:
You are upgrading equipment and appliances in your home.
Your household income is similar to or lower than the median income for your area. ¹
Rebates of up to $14,000 are available for households.
Up to 100% of the cost is covered for low-income households and up to 50% for moderate-income households.
Your state will determine which products qualify from the list below - you could save up to:
$8,000 for an ENERGY STAR-certified electric heat pump for space heating and cooling.
$4,000 for an electrical panel.
$2,500 for electrical wiring.
$1,750 for an ENERGY STAR-certified electric heat pump water heater.
$1,600 for insulation, air sealing and mechanical ventilation products.
$840 for an ENERGY STAR-certified electric heat pump clothes dryer.
$840 for an ENERGY STAR-certified electric stove, range, cooktop or oven.
